If you're looking to explore beyond the usual spots around Broken Bow Lake and Beavers Bend State Park, the Bee Creek and Dyer Mountain Trail offers a rugged adventure right in the middle of the Ouachita National Forest just outside Broken Bow, Oklahoma. It's one of those spots that locals know but the waterfall and Reflection pond aren't clearly marked. Use the All Trails App for a map and search Bee Creek and Dyer Mountain Trail.

This 14.8-mile off-road trail is perfect for travelers who want to trade paved roads for a little mud, mountain views, and a sense of exploration.

Start at Bee Creek Mountain in Ouachita National Forest

The trail begins with a fun drive along Bee Creek Mountain. One of the best early stops is the lake

at the end of the first peninsula. It’s one of those quiet spots many visitors drive right past, but it’s worth slowing down for. Beautifully water views sit peacefully among the trees, and it’s a great place to stretch your legs, take photos, or just enjoy a few minutes of quiet in the forest.

Climb Toward Dyer Mountain in Ouachita National Forest

From there, the trail begins climbing toward Dyer Mountain, where the scenery really opens up. As you gain elevation, you’ll start seeing some incredible views of the surrounding forest. The Ouachitas are known for their rolling ridges rather than sharp peaks, but the views from up here still feel big and wide.

This stretch is where the trail earns its reputation. Expect steep climbs, deep mud puddles, and sections that require a little careful driving. A high-clearance 4x4 is definitely the way to go. Part of the fun is navigating the terrain and seeing what’s around the next bend.

Along the way, you’ll also encounter several creek crossings. After a rain, these can get interesting, in the best way possible for off-road fans.

Hidden Waterfall and Reflection Pond

As the trail winds down, it eventually brings you near Cedar Creek Golf Course. It’s worth stopping to check out the nearby waterfall and reflection pond. If you're not wanting an off-road adventure, but wanting to see the waterfall and pond, you can start near the golf course at the intersection of 50800 and 50900.

The small waterfall spills gently into a calm pond that mirrors the surrounding trees. After a bumpy ride through mud and mountain trails, it’s a peaceful place to take a break before heading back toward town.

A Perfect Broken Bow Adventure

The Bee Creek and Dyer Mountain Trail is a great way to see a wilder side of the Broken Bow area. Between the hidden lake views, scenic mountain views, creek crossings, and the relaxing stop at the waterfall and reflection pond, it’s an adventure that packs a lot into one memorable drive.

Just remember—bring a capable vehicle, take your time, and enjoy the ride. The best parts of the Ouachita forest are often found a little off the beaten path.
